Traffic cut on Vasco da Gama street in Fundão on September 16

oRegiões15 September 2026 at 07:00

Road traffic will be completely interrupted on Vasco da Gama street, in the city of Fundão, on the morning of September 16, 2026, Wednesday, between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. The road closure comes as a result of construction work integrated into housing projects financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The project in question is called "Housing Buildings under the PRR (BNAUT) – ID58 and ID59". This is a project aimed at increasing the housing supply in the municipality, financed by the post-pandemic recovery European mechanism through the BNAUT typology, which corresponds to the National Emergency and Temporary Housing Fund.

To allow for the advancement of structural interventions and the movement of equipment on site, the municipal authorities have ordered the temporary closure of this artery for a period of four hours.

Given the expected disruptions, the Fundão Municipal Council has asked for the understanding of residents and drivers for the inconvenience resulting from the intervention. The council also appealed to all drivers to comply strictly with the temporary signage installed in the surrounding area, recommending the use of alternative routes during the period when the road remains closed.

Why this matters

Residents and drivers in the city of Fundão face four hours of complete interruption on a city artery, and should plan alternative routes. This intervention is part of a program to increase housing supply in the municipality, financed by post-pandemic European funds.
