On September 24, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) will hold the "Blue Circular Innovation Event – From Aquaculture to Sustainable Food Solutions", an international event that will address innovation and sustainability in aquaculture and fisheries. The meeting will take place at the IPMA Auditorium in Algés and aims to bring together researchers, health professionals, industrialists and consumers to promote dialogue among the various sector stakeholders.
The event will feature specialists from several European countries who will present the main conclusions of the AQUAFISH0.0 project. Among the topics addressed will be the valorization of still underutilized fishery products, food safety, economic and regulatory challenges, and consumer acceptance, as well as the need to develop new sustainable products for the market.
Participants will be able to attend a culinary demonstration by a chef, focused on recipes with rarely exploited fish species, and experience a virtual reality activity through an educational video game about sustainable cooking. Two round tables will also discuss the future of aquaculture and the valorization of underexplored marine resources.
The event will primarily be held in Portuguese, with simultaneous translation to English, and it is possible to participate in-person, with prior registration and limited seats, or via streaming. Entry is free and the initiative is part of IPMA's efforts to promote the circular economy and sustainability in the seas and food.
