The Attorney General's Office, through the Office of Amadeu Guerra, confirmed the opening of an inquiry to investigate the current director of the Judicial Police, Carlos Cabreiro. The inquiry was opened following a complaint filed by a PJ coordinator against Cabreiro.
The director of the Judicial Police is accused of abuse of power and of having made false statements in court. Specifically, it is alleged that Cabreiro denied during Rui Pinto's trial the existence of a phone tap that, after all, was actually carried out.
The case is related to the judicial process of Rui Pinto, the Portuguese hacker known for having irregular access to computer systems who was tried for various crimes related to improper data access.
The coordinator who filed the complaint was transferred and is currently the subject of a disciplinary process, which raises questions about possible retaliation within the scope of this internal investigation.
