Recorded music market grew 14% in the first half of this year in Portugal

Jornal Económico14 September 2026 at 16:47

The recorded music market in Portugal grew 14% in the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year, with physical sales revenues increasing by 20%, according to data released by Audiogest. Recorded music revenues reached 45.4 million euros in the first six months of this year, with streaming continuing to account for almost half of that value, 46.1%.

Streaming registered an 18% increase between January and June, rising from 17,719,455 euros to 20,914,600 euros. Revenues from paid subscriptions increased by 28%, to 15.11 million euros, while advertising-supported streaming recorded a slight decline of 1%, to 5.80 million euros. Audiogest notes that the consolidation of subscriptions constitutes a positive factor for the remuneration of artists and producers, but suggests that future revenue growth can hardly rely solely on the organic expansion of domestic consumption.

Physical format revenues increased by 20% between January and June, rising from 4,827,931 euros to 5,785,457 euros. This increase is mainly due to vinyl album sales, which grew by 25%, although CD sales also increased, but to a lesser extent, with 7% growth.

The top sales for the first six months are led by international artists, both in singles and albums. The best-selling single was "Jetski," by Brazilian artist Pedro Sampaio, with the top 10 including only one Portuguese song, "Pôr do Sol," by Vizinhos, in eighth place. The best-selling album was "Debi tirar mas fotos," by Bad Bunny, followed by "Arirang," by South Korean group BTS, and "Carta de alforria," by Portuguese artist Plutonio.

Why this matters

Readers in Portugal can observe that the national music market is growing, which benefits local artists and producers. The increase in paid subscriptions and the recovery of physical sales (especially vinyl) indicate trends that can influence music consumption and the remuneration of professionals in the sector in the country.
