The company Uavision, headquartered in Torres Vedras, will invest up to five million euros in Viseu over three years to create a HAPS (High Altitude Pseudo Satellite) system, a high-altitude unmanned aeronautical system, described as a pseudo-satellite. The total project investment is around ten million euros, with the Viseu investment being partial, covering the construction of a hangar at Aeródromo Municipal Gonçalves Lobato and worker training.
The administrator and founder of Uavision, Nuno Simões, stated that in the first year the investment will be up to two million euros and that the company expects to initially create between 10 to 20 jobs, a number that may grow as the project develops. The choice of Viseu is mainly due to the quality of the aerodrome's runway, which will allow testing the systems under development locally, significantly reducing testing time and increasing the chances of success.
The Municipality of Viseu signed a protocol with the company for the allocation of approximately two thousand square meters of area at the aerodrome. The project also includes training from Instituto Piaget and aims to manufacture part of the aircraft in Viseu, including command and control systems, electronics, metalworking and composites.
The president of the Municipality of Viseu, João Azevedo, considered Uavision a highly qualified company that will empower Viseu economically and establish it as a European reference in innovation for Defense. Nuno Simões also revealed he was particularly pleased with the investment, as his family origins are from the district, specifically from the municipality of Mortágua.
