The municipality of Guimarães reinforced relations with Mexico through a meeting that featured the presence of the president of the local authority, Ricardo Araújo, and the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Portugal, the Vimaranense businessman Paulo Coelho Lima, from the company Lameirinho. The meeting served to discuss new forms of cooperation between the two territories and the role that the business sector can play in this process.
Among the topics addressed was the possibility of a future twinning between Guimarães and the Mexican city of Querétaro, considered one of the most dynamic regions of Mexico. This city stands out for its strong historical and heritage identity, combined with a modern economy based on the automotive, aerospace and technology sectors.
During the meeting, possibilities for internationalization for Vimaranense companies were analyzed, through the strengthening of commercial contacts, investment and partnerships in the Mexican market. The textile, metalworking, automotive, innovation and engineering sectors were identified as areas with high cooperation potential. The approximation between universities and research centers was also discussed, with the aim of promoting joint projects in the areas of training, knowledge transfer and applied research.
Ricardo Araújo stated that this meeting represents "another step in the international affirmation strategy of Guimarães," seeking to create cooperation bridges that generate new economic, academic and cultural opportunities for the municipality.
