Russia carried out a drone attack on a train station a few kilometers from the border with Poland on Sunday, while former prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Sweden, Boris Johnson and Carl Bildt, and the former director of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), David Petraeus, were returning from Ukraine to Poland on different trains.
The official convoys were not hit by the attack. However, the former CIA director was on a train that was evacuated at the station following an alert about an incoming threat, according to reports.
The Ukrainian government suggested that Western officials could be the true targets of the attack. European authorities denounced the action as an intimidation attempt against representatives of the West.
Moscow, for its part, defended that the attack was an action directed exclusively at a military target, denying any intention of hitting Western personalities.
