A delegation from the National Department of Youth Pastoral (DNPJ) is in South Korea to participate in the second preparatory meeting for World Youth Day (WYD) Seoul 2027, which runs from September 13 to 17. The meeting aims to prepare the participation of Portuguese young people in the next global gathering.
The Portuguese representation is made up of Cardinal Mgr. Américo Aguiar, bishop of Setúbal, Father Filipe Diniz, Pedro Carvalho, and Isabel Fernandes. The meeting allows direct contact with the Local Organizing Committee and the analysis of reception conditions, logistics, and pilgrim participation.
Among the topics under discussion are the 40 years of WYD, the recruitment and preparation of pilgrims, the registration system and the digital application for the Day, the Days in the Dioceses, and the journey of young people from arrival in Korea to the main events. Mgr. Américo Aguiar will also participate in a session dedicated to the 40 years of WYD and will preside over the Eucharist on Tuesday, September 15, celebrated in Spanish.
The Portuguese preparation continues the experience of WYD Lisbon 2023 and initial work carried out in Macau, where the DNPJ assessed possibilities for the passage of Portuguese pilgrims during the pre-Journey. WYD Seoul 2027 will have as its theme "Take courage: I have conquered the world" and will bring together young people from around the world in the South Korean capital.
