The Judicial Police is investigating a drug trafficking case involving a person linked to Benfica. The investigation has been ongoing for several months and has already resulted in the arrest of two men, in a case that is generating great media attention.
One of the arrested is João Paulo Santos, 46, known for being involved in the care and training of Benfica's eagle Vitória, which has already been provoked by Nice fans. The man appears in the case being investigated by authorities, in an operation that had Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon as its setting.
According to the investigation, the scheme involved suitcases loaded with cocaine, transported on flights from South America and subsequently removed upon exiting the aircraft. João Paulo Santos is suspected of helping a handling company employee remove the drug from the airport.
The National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking of the Judicial Police (UNCTE/PJ) had been investigating this scheme for approximately four months. The case is causing enormous impact, according to the publication.
