A 21-year-old Spanish student, Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, from the University of Granada, was murdered on Saturday night (12) in Cuautla, in the Mexican state of Morelos, during a university exchange program. She had been in Mexico for approximately a month when she was killed near the Casa da Cultura (House of Culture) of the municipality, about 100 kilometers from Mexico City.
The Attorney General's Office of Morelos opened the case following the femicide protocol, initially used in violent deaths of women to investigate whether there was gender-based motivation. Authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances of the crime.
According to local media outlets, Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera would have been attacked with a bladed weapon during an alleged robbery. The young woman had gone to the Morelos region to participate in the National Festival of the Plant Medicine.
