A collision between a Carris Metropolitana bus and a heavy goods vehicle caused 10 slightly injured people on the A8 motorway, near Malreira, in the municipality of Mafra, Lisbon district. The accident occurred this Monday, at 08:15, in the North/South direction of the road.

There were 52 passengers traveling inside the bus. The 10 occupants who suffered slight injuries were taken to hospitals, with three taken to the emergency department of Hospital de Santa Maria and the remaining seven to Hospital Beatriz Ângelo in Loures.

At the scene of the accident, there were a total of 26 operatives and 11 vehicles, including ambulances from the fire brigades of Malreira, Mafra, Zambujal, Loures and Famões, as well as the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle from Torres Vedras.

After the collision, one lane of the A8 remained restricted to traffic until the removal of the two vehicles involved in the accident.

Why this matters

Readers in the Lisbon region, particularly users of the A8 and Carris Metropolitana, may be directly affected by this road disruption and the resulting traffic restrictions. The accident involved public transportation, so passengers and potential users of this bus line will want to know that the service was interrupted and what alternatives are available. WHY: Residents and commuters in the Lisbon region, particularly those who use the A8 highway and Carris Metropolitana services, need to be aware of this incident as it caused road disruption and involved public transportation. The injured passengers required hospital care, and the road closure affects daily travel plans in the area.
