Jornal e Rádio Valor Local Regional – Grande Lisboa, Ribatejo e Oeste14 September 2026 at 09:53

The Parque Escutista da Mata do Paraíso, located in Vialonga, municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, won first place at the Wonder Global Design Awards 2026, an international award that distinguishes projects in the areas of design and architecture. The project won in the Cultural / Community Architecture – Other Community Architectural Designs category.

The park is being built by the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira as part of the OIL Vialonga – Local Integrated Operation, with a total investment of 657,109.71 euros funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The project was designed by the Plano Humano Arquitectos studio and covers an intervention area of 26,594 square meters.

The space is intended for meetings, training and carrying out activities for the scouting groups and units of the municipality, featuring buildings for changing rooms and washing facilities, field kitchens, a camping and activities area, and an outdoor amphitheater. The park was designed as a place for meeting, learning and fellowship, seeking to promote the enhancement and preservation of the Mata do Paraíso forest.

The Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira considered the achievement of first place as a reason for celebration and pride, which it shares with the scouting groups and units involved. The opening is scheduled for the last quarter of 2026 and is expected to be marked by a scout camp.

Why this matters

Scouts and young people from the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira will benefit from a new space dedicated to training and outdoor activities, built as part of an integrated local operation. The international award recognizes the work of local architecture and can attract more investment and visitors to the region. The completion of the work is scheduled for the end of 2026.

Minister of Environment and Energy says fuel price cap is an "exceptional and last resort" measure

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, announced that the Government is preparing new support for freight transport, firefighters, the social sector and taxis to compensate for the impact of rising fuel prices. When questioned about a fuel price cap, the minister considered this measure "exceptional and last resort" as it could disrupt market functioning. The Executive has already allocated around one billion euros through the ISP and estimates it will reach 1.3 billion by the end of the year. The minister attributed the rise in diesel to a shortage of worldwide refining capacity, pointing to conflicts in the Gulf and between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the closure of refineries in Europe.
