For decades, public health campaigns worked to deconstruct the association between cigarettes and glamour. The image of a pack between an actress's fingers, of the mysterious smoker in cinema, or of a model posing with smoke was replaced by another, linked to the effects of nicotine and the risks of smoking. Now, however, the cigarette is reappearing in fashion photographs, music videos, and productions featuring celebrities, not necessarily as a habit, but as part of the image.
On social media, the so-called "smoking aesthetic" brings together references that include terms like "cigarette girl," "smoke pose," and "performative smoking." The trend does not mean that all personalities seen smoking are, in fact, smokers. What stands out is the way the object is incorporated into the aesthetic, serving as a visual element within a broader style proposal.
