Constitutional Court Judge Maria Benedita Urbano stated that it is "difficult" to determine if a political party is fascist, during a hearing at the Portuguese parliament. The magistrate acknowledged the complexity of classifying extremist political ideologies.
The Constitutional Court confirmed that it received a request for the dissolution of the Chega party. This is the first dissolution request for a party based on alleged political extremism to reach the court.
The process was admitted for consideration, but there is not yet a decision on the merits of the issue. The judge noted that the evaluation of cases of this nature involves complex legal and political considerations.
