Gianluca Prestianni used the social network Instagram to publish a protest message about a play in a football match that involved Gil Martins and Banjaqui. In the post, which was deleted shortly after, the player complained that a red card should have been shown in the play in question, arguing that not even a yellow card was shown.
The Argentine wrote in his story that "despite having achieved the victory, this cannot go unnoticed", referring to the controversial play. The message ended with the phrase "Benfica, against everyone, always", suggesting that the club was a victim of unfair refereeing.
Benfica also commented on the incident, referring to the play as "strange things", showing concern about what it considered to be a refereeing error during the match.
The central theme of the controversy concerns the refereeing decision in the play between Gil Martins and Banjaqui, which according to Prestianni deserved, at minimum, a red card and went unpunished.
