Alexander Zverev won his second Grand Slam title by defeating American Ben Shelton in the US Open final on Sunday. The German tennis player started the match imposing his pace and won the first set, being more consistent in important points and managing two service breaks against his opponent.
In addition to the title, Zverev received $5.5 million, equivalent to approximately 28 million reais at the current exchange rate. This amount represents the largest sum ever paid to a singles champion in Grand Slam history, as well as a 10% increase compared to the previous year's prize money.
Elena Rybakina, women's champion after defeating Aryna Sabalenka the previous Saturday, received the same prize of $5.5 million.
With the earnings from this tournament, Zverev reached $74,057,475, approximately 379.28 million reais, in accumulated prize money since the beginning of his professional tennis career.
