According to the first projections released by Swedish public television SVT, Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson is expected to become the first woman elected Prime Minister of Sweden. The projections indicate that the opposition bloc, predominantly left-wing but also including the Centre Party, achieved 51.3% of the votes, against 46.8% for the right-wing bloc, thus defeating the re-election hopes of current Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
The Swedish Democrats, a far-right party that previously occupied second place in voting intentions, now appear in third place with 17.2% of the votes, which represents a disappointment for this party. The Social Democrats also celebrated the projected 7.4% for the Greens, who are a possible coalition partner on the left.
Magdalena Andersson reiterated upon entering the election night party that the Social Democrats are open to collaboration with all parties, except the Swedish Democrats. The Social Democratic leader stated she wanted to boost the economy, put more money in the pockets of ordinary people and end the crisis in education and healthcare.
The final results are expected to be known by the end of the night, but the first projections point to the fall of the right-wing coalition between the Moderates, Liberals and Christian Democrats.
