Municipal Force Begins Operating in Santa Cruz, in Rio's West Zone

oglobo13 September 2026 at 20:31

The Municipal Force began preventive and ostensible policing this Sunday in Santa Cruz, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The agents will operate in the surroundings of the train station, the Popular Trade Center, and Santa Cruz Shopping, locations that, according to the Urban Security Secretariat, have high foot traffic and high incidence of robberies and thefts.

With this expansion, the corporation now operates in 14 perimeters of the city. Santa Cruz is the third area in the West Zone to receive the force, after Campo Grande and Bangu, expanding the Municipal Force's coverage in the region.

According to the Urban Security Secretariat, the distribution of agents is guided by crime statistics, with priority for locations and times that concentrate robberies and thefts. The secretariat reported that the work is guided by data and by the permanent analysis of criminal hotspots.

Why this matters

The residents of Santa Cruz now have additional Municipal Force personnel in areas with high crime rates, especially around high-traffic points such as train stations and shopping malls. The action is part of a gradual expansion of the corporation throughout Rio's West Zone, following a model based on statistical crime data to define operational priorities.

Initial projections point to victory for the center-left opposition in Sweden; far right loses ground

The center-left opposition won the general elections in Sweden according to initial projections, with the bloc led by the Social Democrats obtaining approximately 49.3% of the votes, which should allow the re-election of former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson to power. The incumbent government of Ulf Kristersson obtained approximately 49.2% of the votes and may lose office. The result defied expectations of a new advance of the far right in Europe after the victory of Alternative for Germany (AfD) in German regional elections.
