Over two thousand teachers called in sick last week, representing a significant number of absences in the education sector. This situation occurs precisely when the school year is about to begin for most students from first to ninth grade.
Classes officially started this week for most students from first to ninth grade, thus covering a large number of children and young people of school age. This is a critical period for the education system, as it marks the return to academic activities after the holidays.
The Ministry of Education managed to place approximately 20 thousand teachers to meet the schools' needs. However, despite this considerable number of hired teachers, there are still many schedules to be filled, indicating a significant gap in faculty coverage.
This reality poses immediate challenges to the organization of schools, which will have to manage the absence of teachers and ensure that all classes have adequate supervision during these first weeks of classes.
