The two donors are the American Ben Delo, founder of the cryptocurrency company BitMEX, and cryptocurrency industry magnate Jeffery D. Sanders. Ben Delo was previously convicted of money laundering in the United States, having received a presidential pardon from former President Donald Trump before leaving the White House.
The Labour Party reacted with severe criticism, announcing that it intends to impose a limit of 100,000 pounds on political donations, with retroactive effects. The Labour Party considers that current legislation allows circumventions that need to be urgently corrected.
The million-pound funding comes at a time when polls attribute to Reform UK a voting intention above 20%, which represents a significant threat to the Conservatives in the upcoming British general elections.
