Grémio announced the dismissal of Luís Castro from his position as head coach. The decision was made after a negative run of results that placed the club in a delicate position in the Brazilian championship.
To replace Castro on an interim basis, the Brazilian club opted for a former Portugal national team coach. The name of the new coach has not yet been officially confirmed by Grémio.
The split came following a home defeat with a comeback against Vasco da Gama. The match was particularly relevant for involving Pedro Emanuel, also Portuguese, as an opponent in the fight for survival.
The defeat against Vasco represented the fourth loss in the last five games for Grémio, which worsened the team's situation in the competition and accelerated the decision to change coaches.
