Gabriel Varela, athlete from the Cantanhede Cycling/VESAM team, was the great winner of the 26th edition of the Grande Prémio Alves Barbosa, a cycling competition that ended on Sunday, September 13. The race reached its end with the always exciting final climb to Montemor-o-Velho Castle, which decided the result of the overall classification.
In the last stage of the race, which linked Coimbra to Montemor-o-Velho, cyclist Filipe Granjinho, representing the Paredes/Reconco team, was the fastest to complete the route, thus guaranteeing victory in the final stage.
The event took place over several days, culminating in the stage that decided which rider would wear the yellow jersey of leader of the overall classification. Gabriel Varela managed to maintain the lead during the previous stages, securing the final victory in the race.
