Former Sporting player Marcus Edwards will now represent the Cypriot national team. The 25-year-old winger, who currently plays for Burnley in England, has already made the decision to change his international representation.
Edwards was an England international at youth level, having represented the England national team at various youth levels. However, he never played for the England senior team, which now allows him to choose to represent another country.
The player crossed the English Channel to play in England, where he made a name for himself at Tottenham and later at Burnley, the club he signed for in 2023 and where he became an important piece of the attack.
Edwards' decision comes at a time when the Cypriot national team is looking to improve its performance on the international stage, now counting on a player developed in English football and with experience in the major European leagues after his spell at Sporting CP.
