Portugal regressed 20 years in educational results, according to data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The performance of Portuguese students in reading and mathematics approached levels recorded in the early 2000s, representing a significant decline in the country's educational indicators.
Education inequality specialist Miguel Herdade was consulted to explain the causes of this trend. According to his analysis, the decline in results cannot be attributed exclusively to the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting that there are deeper structural factors contributing to this situation.
