Turkish police launched a large-scale operation against associations defending homosexual and transsexual rights in several regions of the country. The operation resulted in the detention of about a dozen activists.
The authorities searched several nightclubs and spaces frequented by the LGBT community in Istanbul. The operation also targeted associations working in the defense of this community's rights.
The police action occurs in a context of growing repression against the LGBT community in Turkey, which has seen limited access to rights and increased discrimination in recent years.
