The Castle of Leiria and the Usseira Aqueduct were elected as two of the new 7 Wonders of Portugal. These two monuments thus join a select group of national heritage sites recognized by this distinction.
The Castle of Leiria, located in the municipality of Leiria, is one of the most emblematic historical monuments in the central region of Portugal. Its election represents a recognition of the historical and cultural importance of this medieval fortress.
The Aqueduct of Usseira, situated in Óbidos, in the district of Leiria, was equally distinguished. This architectural structure, which served for water supply, is a notable example of Portuguese engineering over the centuries.
