Ukraine and Russia fought on this Saturday (12) the first naval battle in history exclusively with drones, in the middle of the Black Sea. Ukraine's Navy announced via Telegram that it shot down a Russian unmanned vessel, a naval drone, destroyed by another Ukrainian unmanned vessel.
This battle represents a significant escalation in the war between the two countries. The Ukrainian USV (unmanned surface vessel) Sargan-3000, equipped with a remotely operated 12.7 mm weapons station, was responsible for the destruction of the Russian vessel. Images of the confrontation were released.
Until then, drones were used to attack vessels and land targets, but this was the first time two USVs engaged in direct combat against each other. The newspaper The Kyiv Independent obtained detailed information about the confrontation from the Ukrainian Navy.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Europe will go to war with Moscow if it sends aid troops to Kyiv. The naval battle with drones marks a new phase in the conflict, with the increasing use of unmanned technology in military operations.
