An Iranian commercial ship was attacked this Sunday (13) in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of one person and leaving three wounded. The attack occurred at 5am (10:30pm on Saturday, Brasília time) in front of the islands of Hengam and Qeshm, according to the governor of Qeshm, Amir Teymouri, to state television and the Tasnim news agency.
Several explosions were reported the night before around Qeshm, the largest island in the Strait of Hormuz. So far, Iranian authorities have not determined the origin of the attack.
The incident occurs at a time of tension between Tehran and Washington, who dispute control of the strategic sea passage. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important shipping routes in the world for oil transportation.
