Many passengers chose to stay in Porto Santo given the adverse weather conditions that affected the Madeira archipelago over the weekend. Testimonies gathered from passengers attest to the direct impact that strong winds are having on those traveling to and from the region.
The weekend was marked by 8 diverted flights and 20 cancellations, which included both arrivals and departures. There were also widespread delays on flights that did manage to operate.
The adverse conditions also affected maritime transport. There were limitations on the crossing to Porto Santo, as there were no available spots aboard the 'Lobo Marinho', the ferry that ensures the connection between the main island and Porto Santo.
