The president of the Municipality of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, warned that municipal chambers need more financial and human resources to receive the competencies related to the Unified Benefit. The PS leader considered that the Government has until December to resolve this situation, otherwise the entire process of decentralization of social action to the municipalities may be at risk.
The transfer of competencies in the social area implies that municipalities will now have to manage an additional 12 social benefits. Luísa Salgueiro stressed that without the necessary resources, the municipalities will not be able to guarantee the continuity and quality of services to citizens.
This intervention comes in the context of the decentralization process that has been transferring competencies from the central State to the municipalities, with particular emphasis on the area of social action, where municipal chambers now assume increasing responsibilities in the management of social benefits.
