At least eight flights heading to Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo were forced to divert to alternative airports until the beginning of the night, due to the strong wind felt in the archipelago.
The wind, which reaches speeds of around 60 km/h, is significantly affecting operations at the Madeiran airport, with several aircraft facing difficulties in landing safely.
The island of Porto Santo received three of the flights that were diverted from Madeira, serving as an alternative to accommodate part of the air connections affected by the adverse weather conditions.
The meteorological phenomenon is causing disruptions to the region's air traffic, forcing airlines to reroute passengers to other destinations until the wind conditions improve in the archipelago.
