Lando Norris, McLaren driver, won the pole position in Saturday's qualifying for the Spanish GP at the Madring circuit. The Englishman set a time of 1m31s824, beating Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes and Max Verstappen. Norris described the lap as "maybe the best lap of his career in Formula 1". Norris's position also represented the first pole position in the circuit's history at the new Spanish GP venue.
Kimi Antonelli, who had taken the lead during qualifying, ended up being beaten by Norris and will start in second place. Max Verstappen, four-time world champion, will complete the front row of the grid alongside Antonelli. Ferraris of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will start side by side, in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
This was Norris's third pole position this season, after securing the top spot at the Hungarian and Dutch GPs. With this result, the McLaren driver reaches 19 pole positions in his career, extending his streak of qualifying successes.
Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, who is competing in his first season in Formula 1, will start in 12th place. The Spanish GP will be held this Sunday, starting at 10am, with live broadcast on TV Globo and Sportv3.
