International researchers in restoration and conservation of historic buildings visited, on September 4, 2026, the Ervedal Roman Site and the Historic Village of Castelo Novo, within the framework of the international workshop "ICADA – Idanha-a-Velha: designing from history", promoted by the Network of Historic Villages of Portugal and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto.
The technical visit analyzed perspectives and strategies for the rehabilitation of Castelo Novo's heritage ensemble, with Quinta do Ervedal, an archaeological station under study since 2007, receiving particular attention, especially from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of Valladolid, which expressed interest in collaborating on future projects.
Pedro Alarcão, professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and one of the coordinators of the workshop, highlighted the importance of the Ervedal Roman ensemble and the need for its integration into technical architectural rehabilitation work being developed at national sites such as Idanha-a-Velha or Ammaia.
The Fundão Municipality, which has been developing a project for the safeguarding and enjoyment of the Ervedal Roman Site, will initiate active collaboration with the University of Valladolid through the Municipal Museum of Fundão, under an existing protocol between the local authority and this higher education institution.
