Before the invention of photography, virtual tours of houses already existed. In 1838, a London real estate agency used 3D-effect images to show properties to buyers without taking them to the location.
The idea was called cosmorama and was used by the real estate agency Brooks & Green, established on Old Bond Street, which sold luxury properties. This company began advertising this service to its clients that year, the same year as Queen Victoria's coronation.
Today, those looking for a house can see it from the inside without leaving the sofa, through 3D floor plans, videos and virtual tours. But this technology has roots in the 19th century, when buyers could already have an immersive experience of homes before visiting them in person.
