The Republican National Guard issued an alert regarding a significant worsening of rural fire danger in the coming days. The GNR is the police force responsible for monitoring and preventing fires in rural areas in Portugal.
Since the beginning of the year, the GNR has recorded a total of 7,034 rural fires across the country. This high number of incidents demonstrates the scale of the fire problem in the country.
As part of its operations, authorities have also proceeded with the detention of 172 suspects related to these fires. These detentions are part of efforts to combat criminal activity associated with rural fires.
The alert now issued aims to raise public awareness of the increased risks in the coming days, appealing for preventive measures and increased vigilance from all citizens.
