A 45-year-old man, a Brazilian citizen, was arrested by the Judicial Police in the early hours of Saturday, September 12, in Lagos, in the Algarve, on suspicion of killing a couple for whom he worked as a gardener. The arrest was carried out with the collaboration of the Lagos GNR. The suspect was captured in the vicinity of the property and will be brought before court for the first judicial hearing and application of coercive measures.
The victims are a 79-year-old French man and a 62-year-old Romanian woman, who were entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector and had been living in Portugal for several years. According to the PJ, the crimes occurred at the victims' home, in a context of extreme violence, with the couple being beaten with a blunt object that caused fatal serious injuries.
After killing the couple, the suspect dragged the bodies inside a water tank on the property, where he hid them. He also used chemicals to try to accelerate the decomposition of the bodies. The removal of the bodies required a lengthy and complex operation, due to the location where they were hidden and the condition they were in, involving the intervention of the Lagos Fire Brigade.
When located by the GNR, the man was carrying a large amount of money and several valuables presumably belonging to the victims
