The Medical Order is advancing with a set of proposals aimed at retaining health professionals in the underserved areas of the country. Among the measures presented are housing support, salary improvements and tax benefits, which aim to attract and retain doctors in the areas most in need.
The proposals come within the scope of the identification of 11 underserved areas in Portugal. One of these areas is the Autonomous Region of the Azores, which faces significant difficulties in attracting and retaining health professionals.
The main objective of these measures is to ensure a better distribution of doctors throughout the national territory, combating the regional asymmetries that have affected access to healthcare in various parts of the country.
