Three Algarve municipalities are today with "maximum" rural fire danger

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) classified three municipalities in the Algarve with "maximum" danger of rural fire during today. Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira are the municipalities most affected by this extreme risk situation.

Eight other Algarve municipalities present "very high" danger: Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Portimão, Silves, Monchique, Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António. These municipalities face meteorological conditions that significantly favor the spread of rural fires.

In the rest of the Algarve territory, Lagos, Albufeira, Faro and Olhão are classified with "high" danger, while Lagoa presents "moderate" danger. This distribution shows that practically the entire region faces conditions favorable to rural fires.

The rural fire danger determined by IPMA is calculated based on five levels, using data on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation recorded in the previous 24 hours.
