Paid 1,303.80 euros for drain unblocking in Olhão and disputes the charge

Postal do Algarve12 September 2026 at 10:00

Maria do Rosário Lopes contested the payment of 1,303.80 euros for a drain unclogging service carried out on August 3 at her residence in the municipality of Olhão. The client states that the intervention lasted approximately one hour and ten minutes, without replacement of parts, and that she did not receive any estimate or quote before the work. The two technicians sent by the company ALÔ ESGOTOS, trading name of RPSP Unipessoal, Lda., reportedly broke two floor tiles to access the junction box and resolved the problem with a pressure hose. Maria do Rosário paid the amount, although she considers the charge manifestly excessive and disproportionate, to avoid further inconvenience.

The POSTAL consulted invoice number FT 2026/00293, issued by RPSP Unipessoal on August 5, which lists zero euros for each enumerated item, concentrating the entire charge in a single entry designated "Total do serviço" (Total of service): 1,060 euros, plus 243.80 euros of VAT at the rate of 23%. The invoice does not allow separation of travel costs, labor, or equipment. The client requested itemization of the amounts on August 5 and 6, to present to her insurer, but states that she was promised a new document that never arrived. The company did not respond to questions sent by the editorial team, with a deadline set for September 4, and subsequent contact attempts were not answered.

DECO, contacted by the newspaper, recalled that the urgency of a service does not override consumer rights. Lawyer Susana Correia noted that

Why this matters

Algarve readers who need unclogging or other urgent services learn that they can demand prior estimates, that invoicing must be itemized, and that even after payment, they can dispute amounts through CIMAAL or other dispute resolution channels, without prejudice to their consumer rights.
