The University of Porto inaugurated on September 7 a new food space at the Campo Alegre campus, at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences (FCNAUP). This Nutrition Food Unit operates as a canteen and snack-bar, offering meals at affordable prices during lunch hours and a variety of options throughout the day.
The initiative results from a collaboration between the Social Services of U.Porto (SASUP) and FCNAUP, celebrating the fifty years of the country's first Nutrition course. The faculty director, Pedro Graça, stated that the goal is to transform the space into a laboratory of experiences and nutritional solutions that can serve as a model for university catering.
The new space features a modern aesthetic with green tones and large windows, incorporating elements that connect with nature. The food offering includes dishes inspired by the Mediterranean diet, salads and daily soups, as well as sandwiches with differentiated breads, grilled items, desserts, hot dishes and pasta at the snack-bar.
Schedules were set to better serve students: the canteen operates Monday to Friday from 12:30 to 14:30, while the snack-bar is open during the week from 08:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 13:00. The unit also aims to be a training location for students and a dynamic space that highlights local producers and new initiatives in the food sector.
