On Corsica, separatists blow up vacation homes to send a message to France

oglobo12 September 2026 at 04:00

On Corsica, the French Mediterranean island, separatists promoted a wave of explosive attacks against vacation homes in October 2023. The first explosions happened shortly after 10 PM on a Sunday, with the sound reverberating through the mountains and down the coast.

The attack resulted in the destruction of 34 properties, mostly vacation homes that were unoccupied, some still under construction. The properties were bombed or set on fire, leaving a trail of destruction across 20 towns and villages on the island.

The episode was interpreted as a message from Corsican separatist groups directed at France. This is an exclusive article for subscribers, with access available through registration at the publication's link.
