The new General Hospital of Castellón is beginning to stop being a project and become a reality. The authorization for the contracting of the works, with a budget exceeding 474 million euros and an execution period of five years, represents a decisive step for an infrastructure that the province has waited too long for. This is probably one of the largest-scale interventions that will be carried out in Castellón in several decades.
The need to replace and expand the current hospital is not new. For years, evidence has accumulated that facilities designed for another healthcare reality have been getting smaller and obsolete in the face of population growth and new care needs.
The current hospital provided essential services to several generations of people from Castellón, but the passage of time has highlighted its limitations in the face of current health challenges. This new infrastructure emerges as a response to an old demand from the population and health authorities of the region.
