So the DN-M had compassion and did not censor.

Miguel de Sousa's opinion article about TAP's privatization was published in the Diário de Notícias da Madeira after a 24-hour delay, which the author of this text considers to have been an act of "editorial compassion" on the part of the newspaper, and not censorship.

The text critiques several ideas advocated by Miguel de Sousa. One of them is the suggestion of an IBERIA/BA/TAP consortium, which the author considers unviable due to European competition rules, arguing that the European Commission would never authorize Iberia to merge with TAP, as it would risk creating a monopoly in Southern Europe and kill Lisbon's Hub.

The article also attacks what it calls the "Theory of Air Races," where Miguel de Sousa allegedly suggested that passenger safety depends on speaking Portuguese with the crew, and criticizes his conspiratorial theory about the French in Madeira's airport management, clarifying that the concession to VINCI was due to the Region's default and not to any Gallic collusion.

Finally, the author deconstructs the idea that TAP lost money "out of love for Madeira" and blames Miguel de Sousa for having blamed the Azores for the Mobility Subsidy mess, when the real problem was Madeira's acceptance of a reimbursement model that allowed airlines to inflate prices. The article ends by suggesting that the best bet for TAP would be Air France/KLM.

The exemptions at SESARAM

The article addresses the recent implementation of biometric control at SESARAM (Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira), criticizing the exemptions granted to certain medical specialties, such as plastic surgery and dermatology. The author reports that exempt doctors do not comply with schedules, arriving at 9am and leaving at 11am, while other employees are rigorously monitored. It also reports the existence of prolonged waiting lists, unjustified overtime work, and an alleged inequality in treatment between doctors and other health professionals. The author blames the administration and the board of directors for the situation, considering that career progression should be the same for all employees.

Half a tank goes to the State

Fuel prices rose significantly again this week, with 95 octane gasoline settling at 2.115 euros per litre and diesel at 2.188 euros, meaning filling sixty litres at a mainland petrol station costs over 130 euros. The increase was 8.5 cents for gasoline and 11 cents for diesel in just seven days, driven by the Brent price and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The article argues that public outrage, while justified, is misdirected, as this rise is an international phenomenon and not the responsibility of local operators.

Alemão Cable Car Receives Steel Cables for System Reactivation After Ten Years of Waiting

After ten years of being deactivated, 7 kilometers of steel cables, totaling 78 tons, arrived at the Alemão Complex for the rehabilitation of the community's cable car. The material is part of electromechanical equipment acquired by the state government from the French company POMA, the holder of the system's technology. The acquisition was made through an international letter of credit. The transport of the cables, which were stored at the Special Operations Command of the Military Police in Ramos, to the Palmeira/Fazendinha station, was carried out in two stages to avoid impacts on Avenida Brasil traffic. The installation will be handled by MPE Engenharia e Serviços.
