After a long wait of ten years, 7 kilometers of steel cables, corresponding to 78 tons of weight, arrived at the Alemão Complex for the rehabilitation of the community's cable car. The material is part of a package of electromechanical equipment purchased from the French company POMA, the exclusive holder of the technology already installed in the public equipment. The acquisition was made by the state government of Rio de Janeiro, through an international letter of credit.
The steel cables were stored at the Military Police Special Operations Command in Ramos, and needed to be transported to the Palmeira/Fazendinha station. The transport operation was divided into two stages to avoid impacts on Avenida Brasil traffic.
On Wednesday night, the truck with the first coil of cable left the COE heading to the construction site of MPE Engenharia e Serviços, the contracted company to install the equipment. The second stage of the operation took place on this Friday.
The Alemão cable car is a public transportation system that had been deactivated a decade ago, and the arrival of the new cables represents an important step toward the reactivation of the service in the community.
