The Association for Consumer Protection (DECO) questioned the legality of the fixed fare agreed for taxis originating at Lisbon Airport, considering that this measure may violate competition rules in the sector. The association expressed doubts about the compliance of this agreement with current legislation.
The protocol establishing the new prices was signed on Friday, providing fixed fares of 16 euros for trips to Marquês de Pombal and 19 euros to Terreiro do Paço. This solution was presented as a way to end the practice of abusive prices that for years affected passengers using taxis at the airport.
The agreement involves ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, the Lisbon City Council, the National Taxi Transporters Association, Taxiagência and TaxistaLisboa. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Turismo de Lisboa also participate in this initiative.
The protocol comes as a result of an investigation initiated by the Public Prosecutor's Office into a taxi network at the airport that charged prices far exceeding those permitted, resulting in arrests and the imposition of fines.
