José Luís Carneiro, PS leader, continues to defend regionalization as a political objective, even in the face of declared opposition from the PSD. The socialist keeps regionalization on the party's political horizon, refusing to abandon this banner even in the face of resistance demonstrated by the main opposition party.
The socialist leader also rejects the need for a surgical review of the Constitution to allow a referendum on the regions. This position comes against the current of those who argue that it would be necessary to make punctual changes to the fundamental law to enable the popular consultation.
In his speech, Carneiro argued that the constitutional review should be limited only to metadata issues and the health emergency, that is, to matters considered less controversial and more technical, without covering the regionalization issue that continues to divide the parties.
