Mação prepares plan to reduce wild boar and admits to financing control actions

SIC Notícias12 September 2026 at 00:57

The municipality of Mação is preparing a plan to reduce the wild boar population in the area. The local authority admits to potentially financing control actions for the species.

Among the possibilities being considered are financial support for hunting packs and hunting licenses. The municipal council is also considering the installation of a cold storage room for storing the harvested game.

The plan also includes solutions for the disposal of dead wild boar, as well as interventions in the maintenance of existing hunting areas. The objective is to create conditions for hunting activity to remain active and efficient in combating the overpopulation of the species.
