Minister André Mendonça defended maintaining the removal of the Federal Police director-general, Andrei Rodrigues, and the Police Intelligence director, Leandro Almada. The statement was filed on this Friday, after Andrei Rodrigues presented to the Supreme Court clarifications regarding the accusations of investigating authorities and defended the legality of his actions.
According to the minister, the measure does not encroach on the president's competence to appoint and dismiss members of the PF leadership. Mendonça stated that the Supreme Court has jurisprudence that allows the precautionary removal of public servants and that, in the case of the Federal Police, the measure is provided for in the disciplinary legislation in light of evidence of infractions.
Minister André Mendonça also rejected the argument that the departure of the two directors would cause serious disorganization at the Federal Police. In his view, the institution has other delegates with the technical capacity to assume the positions and ensure the continuity of operations.
