The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) used 1,100 tons of explosives to destroy an underground Hezbollah complex in Lebanon. The detonation was so powerful that it caused a magnitude 4.1 earthquake in the region.
The target of the operation was an underground tunnel over two kilometers long, located beneath Lebanese territory. According to the IDF, the complex served as a Hezbollah command center.
The destroyed complex also contained weapons storage facilities where missiles, drones, anti-tank weapons and explosives were stored. The Israeli military authorities consider that this infrastructure represented a significant threat to Israel's security.
The operation occurs in the context of the broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has intensified in recent months. This underground destruction is part of Israeli efforts to neutralize the military capability of the Lebanese Shiite group.
