OpenAI announced it had found a formal solution to one of the famous Millennium Problems, the problem of existence and regularity of the Navier-Stokes equations, which describes the behavior of fluids in motion. Sam Altman's company made this announcement in recent days, immediately generating an intense debate throughout the worldwide scientific community.
However, the discovery was not received without controversy. In the academic world, doubts arose about whether this is truly a triumph of artificial intelligence or whether it constitutes a premature initiative, devoid of the scientific requirements necessary for formal validation.
To achieve this discovery, OpenAI developed a large-scale infrastructure, using 10,000 autonomous artificial intelligence agents. These agents worked in coordination in a next-generation model, running in parallel for approximately 88 consecutive hours and exchanging millions of messages between them, at an estimated computational cost of millions of dollars.
